"Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill it teaches the whole people by its example.
Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself."

  • Police Wednesday confirmed the identities of a married couple found shot to death in their home and ruled the case a murder-suicide.

The bodies of John McWorthy, 62, and his 64-year-old wife, Barbara, were discovered April 27 in the master bedroom of their home at 2464 Fire Mountain Drive, Oceanside police Sgt. Jeff Brandt said.

Both had been shot in the head. Authorities were called to the home when one of the residents failed to show up for work, Brandt said. Investigators determined that John McWorthy murdered his wife and then turned the gun on himself, but a motive had not been established, according to Brandt.
